Family Farmed · Community Fed · Regenerative from the Ground Up
A BIPOC, woman-run family farm in Portland, Oregon. A mother and her child tend 5 acres of pasture, woods, creeks and open sky — so every family, regardless of means, can access real food raised with intention.
Astral Farms was built on the belief that the way food is raised has consequences — for animal welfare, for land stewardship, for the environment, and for the health of the families and communities we serve. We are a BIPOC, woman-run small family farm, tended daily by a mother and her child. Our direct-to-consumer sales are not simply transactions — they are the engine that allows us to expand access to high-quality protein across our region, fund nonprofit partners, and employ seasonal staff who have historically experienced significant hardship.

Why Our Eggs Cost What They Do
We believe you deserve to know exactly where your money goes. The true cost of producing a single egg on our farm — factoring in quality feed, clean water, housing and infrastructure upkeep, packaging, and the reality of livestock loss — runs between 90 cents and $1.00 per egg. That means a dozen eggs costs us roughly $12–$13 to bring to you before a single dollar of labor is counted.
Feed alone — a real-food program, not cheap filler — is one of our largest ongoing costs. Add to that the infrastructure that keeps our animals safe — security cameras, fencing, lighting, and ongoing property upkeep — along with the cartons and packaging that protect every egg on its way to your table, and the math is unforgiving. We price our eggs to reflect this honestly, not to maximize profit.
When you pay $14 for a dozen from us, you are not overpaying for an egg. You are paying a fair price for real food, raised by real people, on real land — and making it possible for us to give that same food away to families who cannot.
Luxury Is Not a Price Point
We reject the idea that the best food is only for people who can afford the best prices. At Astral Farms, premium means how it is raised — not what it costs you. Every family deserves nutrient-dense, vibrant, real eggs. That belief is the foundation of everything we do, from our sliding scale pricing to our free dozen program for families in need. Luxury, to us, means an egg raised with integrity. And that should belong to everyone.
What Makes Our Eggs Different
Our eggs are fresh — gathered and delivered to you within days. The egg you buy at a grocery store can be anywhere from 30 to 120 days old by the time it reaches your hands. That is legal, and it is normal, and we think you deserve better.
We do not wash off the bloom — the natural protective coating the hen lays on every egg to seal it and keep bacteria out. Commercial washing strips this entirely and replaces real protection with refrigeration dependency. Our eggs arrive to you as nature intended.
We do not crowd our hens into small spaces. We do not shine artificial lights on them to manipulate their laying cycles and force year-round production. We let our birds rest when their bodies say rest. And when a hen or rooster grows old and stops producing — we do not cull them. They live out their lives here, cared for, because usefulness is not a condition of dignity.
All of this — the space, the rest, the bloom, the retired flock — costs more. And it is worth every cent.
